Annona muricata L. is a tropical tree that is used in traditional medicine around the world. The high content of flavonoid, alkaloid, acetogenin, phenolic, and lipophilic compounds of this tropical tree forms the basis of its traditional medical uses.
According to 49
research articles studied, the pharmacological properties of Soursop are
reported to include 6% antihypertensive properties.
In a study carried out in Jamaica, it was found that Annona muricata shows antioxidant and antihypertensive properties through
Angiotensin-I-converting enzymes in vitro. The suggested hypotensive mechanism
of A. muricata takes action through the blockage
of calcium ion channels, that lowers the blood pressure. The hypotensive
effects of A. muricata are not mediated through muscarinic, histaminergic,
adrenergic, and nitric oxide pathways, but through peripheral mechanisms
involving antagonism of Ca(2+). (REF.
