APOPTOSIS
Apoptosis is a Greek word, meaning to drop off. This term is more
relevantly used at the cellular level as the cell death on receiving a certain
stimulus. Apoptosis is an important phenomenon that plays an important role in
the pathogenesis of many diseases. Low or high rates of Apoptosis are culprits
in some degenerative diseases. Cancer is a cellular condition where the rate of
Apoptosis is less, resulting in malignant cells that will not die, giving rise
to a lump of cells, termed Cancer. In Cancer treatment, targeting Apoptosis in
Cancer cells is an important aspect.
Defective Apoptotic pathways play a crucial role in Carcinogenesis and
can be tackled with targeted Apoptosis with the help of some nutraceutical
products. Soursop fruits are rich in Acetogenins, which are known to be selectively
toxic to Cancer cells.
